Together with an outreach team, we travelled to Jordan as the Lona Project. Katrina, who bravely embarked on the prevention programme as an outreach worker, taught the four modules of the Lona Project’s human trafficking prevention programme with Michèle. Around 30 leaders took part in the four morning sessions. We are impressed by our partner organisation, which has been supporting women in difficult life situations for years.
Randa, the head of a partner organisation, founded it after witnessing injustice against women. ‘I could no longer look away,’ she said. This was the impetus for her commitment. With a growing team, she helps women who have suffered (sexual) abuse, accompanies them and also organises rescue operations at very short notice for women whose lives are at risk. The work continues to grow.
It was very exciting to carry out the four modules of the prevention programme and talk about human trafficking, prostitution, setting boundaries, loverboys and relationships, among other things. The topics of the prevention programme are still largely taboo subjects and sometimes difficult even for the leaders to name. At the same time, I saw how these women bravely faced up to these issues in order to give other women a voice and be able to name injustice. Many emphasised how important it is to talk about these issues. Meryem said ‘It is so difficult to help people out of abusive situations. That’s why it’s so important that we talk more about these issues in a preventative way.’
The leaders are therefore also keen to spread the content of the prevention programme online via their Facebook groups and in the five different areas in and around Amman.
I, Michèle, have met many courageous women in Jordan and am delighted that they are bravely shedding light on dark issues. Our partner organisation is ready to multiply the prevention programme. The only thing missing are the funds to cover the costs of transport to the meetings and catering for the four two-hour training sessions. A total of CHF 40 is needed for each participant. If you would like to donate to the prevention programme, please get in touch with us. We will then be happy to send you a payment slip.
