Review movie night

«Voices From The Fire»

You know that the title fits the movie when you’ve seen it. There is a woman in the movie who is betrayed by her best friend and gets caught up in a human trafficking ring, drugged, raped and whose baby is aborted in the 6th month. Or the other woman from a good family who is introduced to prostitution step by step by a “loverboy” until it becomes completely normal and terrible for her at the same time. The stories in the film are infuriating and shocking. At the same time, they are deeply moving and touching.

We showed the film “Voices From The Fire” at five locations in Switzerland. Our aim was to show visitors how they can react to the subject matter. This voice was very encouraging: “I’m a bit frustrated talking to people about human trafficking. Again and again I get the impression that they are not interested and I feel so powerless. The movie night motivated me to look into it again and find out what I can do.”

The topic can be overwhelming, but we can all make a difference. Here are three ways to do something small in your everyday life and be active:

  • Do you know about ACT212’s website against human trafficking, where you can report suspected cases anonymously? www.act212.ch
  • Do you know the conditions under which your favorite coffee beans are produced? Take a look at the swissfairtrade.ch website.
  • Are you interested in becoming part of outreach work in the red light district of your city? Get in touch with us.
