In Rwanda, thanks to a partnership with Campus for Christ Rwanda, we were unexpectedly able to conduct a “Training for Trainers” on human trafficking with SAYE director Amina Umuhoza. Her organization is already doing important educational work in schools. Despite the short preparation time, Michèle and Amina shared the content of the prevention program, with Michèle providing background information and Amina offering cultural context. It was a wonderful collaboration.

Heartfelt Feedback
The feedback from the trainers is moving: “I used to think that women in prostitution had chosen this path themselves and were to blame for the consequences. Now I understand the complexity and the underlying reasons much better.”

Lona lives up to her name
The name Lona (“the light-bringer”) proved to be fitting, as the participants experienced moments of enlightenment. They are eager to expand the program to public schools. To reach students from poorer families with limited English proficiency, the program is now being translated into the local language, Kinyarwanda—an important step in expanding the reach of the human trafficking prevention program. Together for Hope and Freedom – together for hope and freedom.
